IIHS Geospatial Lab (GSL)
The Geospatial Lab (GSL) at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) is a hub for spatial analysis, research, and capacity building, integrating GIS, remote sensing, and spatial modelling to address urban transformation challenges.
About the Role
IIHS is seeking an early-career professional to join the GSL team as a GIS/Remote Sensing professional. The role involves supporting inter-disciplinary research, teaching, and practical projects through spatial data development, visualization, and analysis using open-source GIS tools.
Contract: 11 months (renewable on mutual consent, with potential for a permanent position).
Location: Bengaluru, with travel within India as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform spatial analysis for research and practice projects.
- Develop methods and workflows for spatial and remote sensing data processing.
- Produce cartographic maps (static and dynamic) and automate visualization workflows.
- Collect and manage spatial and non-spatial datasets from various sources.
- Participate in field data collection and teaching activities.
- Assist in developing course modules, data sets, and training sessions.
- Contribute to the development of spatial data infrastructure, including data organization and archival.
- Support IIHS’s other activities like academics, research, training, and operations.
- Engage in institution-building activities at IIHS.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- Option 1: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing or a related discipline with 1 year of relevant experience.
- Option 2: Degree in Urban Planning/Natural Sciences or related discipline with 2 years of relevant experience.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in QGIS, Google Earth Engine, and Python is essential.
- Additional skills in R or spatial database development (PostgreSQL/MySQL) are advantageous.
Functional Skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Willingness to support project management and day-to-day lab operations.
