Role

WRI India is looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Associate – Budget Analyst to support its operations team in Mumbai. This will work great for someone who enjoys working with numbers, budgets, and contracts, and wants to be part of a mission-driven organisation making a real difference in environmental and social development. This is a 1-year term hire, which is extendable based on performance and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain project budgets using WRI’s budgeting and forecasting software (TM1).
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure budget accuracy and minimise variance from planned targets.
  • Coordinate with the accounting, payments, HR, and program teams for timesheets, expense reporting, and ad hoc financial needs.
  • Support project teams to ensure compliance with grant and contract terms and conditions.
  • Process documentation for agreements, contracts, sub-grants, work authorisations, and purchase orders.
  • Monitor contract performance and help partners meet sub-grant and contract requirements.
  • Process invoices and payments for partners in line with WRI’s policies.
  • Organise conference and event logistics, including venue, catering, equipment, and travel arrangements.
  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling meetings, updating staffing information, and managing trackers.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of new staff and interns as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant, full-time experience in financial management, budgeting, administration, or nonprofit operations.
  • Strong process orientation with attention to quality, timelines, and organisational systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), web-based communications (Skype, Zoom), and CRM databases (Salesforce).
  • Experience with budgeting software and Excel is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, adapt to changing priorities, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong writing, database management, and proofreading skills.
