India Development Review (IDR) is Asia's largest independent media platform advancing knowledge on philanthropy and social impact. What started as a simple idea in 2017 has grown into a powerhouse reaching nearly 20 million people across India and beyond. IDR publishes cutting-edge ideas, lessons and insights written by and for the people working on India's toughest problems. Every weekday brings fresh perspectives from grassroots workers to policy experts, all shared freely without paywalls. Their mission is clear: surface knowledge trapped in silos so the development community can achieve greater impact together.
Role
Support IDR's editorial strategy as we continue building India's largest independent media platform for social change. This role offers hands-on experience in content creation, stakeholder engagement, and editorial operations within the development sector.
Responsibilities
- Generate ideas for articles and features covering social impact themes
- Transcribe, write, ghostwrite, and edit stories whilst conducting research for IDR features and properties
- Produce headlines and blurbs, publishing articles on the website daily
- Manage partner relationships with contributors, illustrators, and other organisations
- Support specific editorial projects and initiatives, including sponsored series
- Interview sector experts for IDR stories and conduct field research
- Attend relevant events, roundtables, and conferences representing IDR
- Ensure all articles comply with ethical codes of practice
- Offer additional support in client and donor management, administrative duties, outreach, and partnerships
Requirements
- Keen interest in social change issues with understanding of programmatic and organisational practices in development sector
- Excellent writing and communication skills with strong command over English
- Comfort with Hindi; knowledge of additional languages advantageous
- Attention to detail with ability to work independently and think critically
- Comfort with ambiguity whilst being collaborative team player
- Internet fluency including social media, search engines, and familiarity with online journalism
- Basic knowledge of WordPress, graphic design, and video editing software preferred
- Strong project management skills and ability to multitask effectively
- College degree with 4-5 years experience in development sector or communications/editorial role
