Teach For India

Teach For India is a non-profit organization working to address educational inequity in India. The organization operates a two-year Fellowship program where graduates and professionals teach in under-resourced classrooms. Over the past fifteen years, it has built a network of thousands of Alumni working across various levels of the education system.

The foundation is currently in its fourth strategic phase, aiming to cultivate 50,000 leaders to improve educational outcomes for children from low-income communities. Their work focuses on teacher leadership, scaling impact through alternative fellowships, and advocating for systemic changes to ensure every child receives an excellent education.

Role

The Associate will manage financial tracking and reporting for various funding streams. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the role ensures that donor requirements are met through accurate budgeting, financial data management, and regular reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing grant budgets for funding proposals and track how these funds are utilized.
  • Prepare and submit timely donor reports in specific formats, ensuring all financial data is accurate.
  • Coordinate with the fundraising team to close fund utilization reports and work with auditors for official certifications.
  • Review accounting entries regularly to ensure expenses are allocated to the correct projects.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and documentation for statutory returns.
  • Ensure all financial activities comply with the Indian Trusts Act, Income Tax Act, and FCRA regulations.
  • Supervise junior finance staff and help document internal processes to improve efficiency.
  • Serve as an organizational ambassador by spending time in classrooms to better understand the impact of the foundation's work.

Requirements

  • A degree in Commerce or an Inter CA qualification.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in finance roles within large NGOs or service-sector corporates.
  • Proficiency in Excel and experience generating MIS reports.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as NetSuite or Tally.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Previous experience or audit exposure with Big 4 accounting firms is preferred.
