With 73 member organisations worldwide, APC focuses on creating a just and sustainable internet, empowering activists and communities, especially in the Global South. APC supports movements that challenge power structures and advocate for the internet as a global public resource.

Role

This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead APC’s outreach and engagement efforts, strengthening the organisation’s visibility and connection with key audiences, including media, members, and partners worldwide. The Communications Outreach and Engagement Lead will play a vital role in crafting communication strategies that amplify APC’s mission in the digital rights space. This position is full-time, remote, with a preference for candidates based in Africa or Asia due to regional focus and travel needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain APC’s outreach and engagement strategies within the communications plan.
  • Create original content and manage social media channels to enhance APC’s presence and engagement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets through press releases, media digests, and proactive outreach.
  • Produce bi-weekly Community Updates and media digests for APC’s audiences.
  • Organise and support online events like campaigns, interviews, and guest editor takeovers.
  • Monitor and evaluate communications activities, delivering regular outreach reports with insights.
  • Represent APC at key events, preparing coverage plans and follow-ups.

Requirements

  • At least four years of experience in communications, preferably within the Global South.
  • Proven ability to manage social media platforms and produce engaging content.
  • Deep understanding of digital rights issues, guided by a feminist and human rights-based approach.
  • Experience working with journalists, writing press releases, and handling media requests.
  • Effective communicator capable of translating complex policy and technical topics into clear language.
  • Proficiency in English; additional languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French) are a plus.
  • Located in Africa or Asia, with good connectivity and availability for travel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proactive, and adept at working across cultures and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a fully remote, virtual team environment.
