About the Project
The OptimizeD study aims to improve outcomes in depression in primary care settings in India by randomizing 1,500 patients with moderate to severe depression to either psychotherapy or antidepressant medication. The study will use machine learning to generate a precision treatment rule (PTR), predicting which patients will respond better to each treatment option. The project is funded by the US National Institute of Mental Health and involves collaborators from leading institutions, including Harvard University, Vanderbilt University, the Broad Institute, and AIIMS Bhopal.
About The Role

Job Location: Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India
Duration: Annual contract, with renewal depending on continued funding and satisfactory performance
Working Days: Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
Reporting to: Dr. Anuja Lahiri (Trial Manager)
As a Data Manager, your responsibilities will include:
Data Management and Quality Control
- Oversee daily data collection processes, ensuring timely submission, data integrity, and secure backups.
- Supervise data entry and maintain well-organized, accessible data records.
- Ensure proper maintenance of data collection tools (e.g., tablets, phones), troubleshoot technical issues, and confirm readiness for field use.
- Regularly review and audit data for completeness and quality, addressing discrepancies.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Design and maintain dashboards to track key trial metrics (e.g., recruitment, retention).
- Generate data reports, exports, and summaries for the research team.
- Prepare and submit quarterly, half-yearly, and annual reports, including raw data submissions to NIMH.
Data Analysis and Visualization
- Perform data analysis as required, creating visual representations of key metrics and trends.
- Support research teams in conducting statistical analysis and data interpretation for publications and reports.
Essential Requirements
- Master’s/PhD in Statistics, Demography, Social Sciences, Public Health, or related fields (with a specialization in Statistics preferred).
- Proven experience in data management, preferably in clinical research, with familiarity in using REDCap.
- Strong command of both written and spoken English and Hindi.
- Willingness to be based in Bhopal, with occasional field visits to improve data quality.
Desirable Skills
- Proficiency in data analysis software (STATA, R, Python).
- Experience conducting statistical analysis.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to meeting deadlines.
Remuneration and Contract
- Salary Range: ₹6-8 LPA, adjusted based on qualifications, skill sets, and experience.
- The initial appointment includes a six-month probation period, with possible renewal based on performance.
