Role
The Director, Hypertension Control is a senior leadership role focused on saving lives from strokes and heart attacks in India. The main goal is to help at least 50% of people with high blood pressure get their condition under control. You will lead a talented team to scale up national health programs, work closely with the Indian government, and bring new, innovative ideas to heart health care across the country.
Responsibilities
- Guide the design and rollout of national heart health and diabetes programs in both public and private clinics.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with the Ministry of Health and other government bodies to turn data into national health policies.
- Introduce new tools like combination pills and digital apps to help patients stay on track with their treatment.
- Visit the field regularly to mentor staff, solve problems, and ensure high-quality care is being delivered.
- Lead scientific research and write reports that show what is working, sharing these lessons with the global health community.
- Hire, mentor, and lead a high-performing technical team, fostering a culture of teamwork and growth.
Requirements
- Medical degree (MBBS or MD) is required; a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) is strongly preferred.
- At least 15 years of experience in designing and leading large-scale public health programs.
- Proven history of working successfully with high-level government officials and national health systems.
- Deep knowledge of hypertension, heart disease, or non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
- Strong skills in data analysis, strategic planning, and managing large budgets.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Hindi; other regional languages are a plus.
- High emotional intelligence and the ability to lead a team under pressure.
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time within India and occasionally abroad.
