Role

This fellowship will support three projects from women, trans, and queer filmmakers to create a 40-60 minute documentary film. The theme for this year is "The Other Side," focusing on alternative, unconventional, and neglected experiences and realities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a film project from an early stage, focusing on artistic research and experimentation.
  • Craft a compelling and evocative documentary film between 40-60 minutes in duration.
  • Explore the theme "The Other Side" through a feminist lens, giving voice to unheard stories.
  • Complete the film within an eight to nine-month period.
  • Engage with mentors from Rough Edges and the Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation throughout the fellowship.
  • Provide English subtitles for the final film to ensure wider outreach.

Requirements

  • Applicants must identify as women, trans, or queer filmmakers and be residents of India.
  • Proposals should be for projects in their early stages of development. Projects nearing completion or only requiring post-production funds are not eligible.
  • The proposed film should creatively explore the theme "The Other Side" and challenge mainstream narratives.
  • Applicants can apply as individuals, teams, or collectives.
  • Filmmakers from communities marginalised by caste, class, disability, religion, or ethnicity are especially encouraged to apply.
  • The proposed idea and budget should be suitable for the fellowship grant amount.

Benefits

  • A fellowship grant of ₹3,00,000 to produce your film.
  • Mentorship and guidance from Rough Edges and the Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation.
  • A platform to create a film that brings marginalised stories to the forefront.
