Educate Girls
Educate Girls is a leading Indian non-profit organization established in 2007 that focuses on mobilizing communities for girls' education in India’s most rural and educationally backward areas. By leveraging the government's existing investment in schools and engaging with a massive base of community volunteers, the organization helps identify, enroll, and retain out-of-school girls while improving foundational literacy and numeracy for all children.
In 2025, Educate Girls made history by becoming the first Indian organization to receive the Ramon Magsaysay Award (often referred to as Asia’s Nobel Prize).
Operating Regions: Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar (covering 30,000+ villages)
Core Programs & Impact Strategies
- Enrolment & Retention: Identifying out-of-school girls through door-to-door surveys and using community mobilization to convince parents and village elders of the importance of education.
- Learning Outcomes (Gyan ka Pitara): Implementing a remedial learning curriculum using interactive kits to build micro-competencies in Hindi, English, and Math for primary school children.
- Team Balika: A unique volunteer model where local youth mentors act as champions for girls' education, bridging the gap between the school, the community, and the government.
- The Second Chance Program: Empowering adolescent girls and young women who have missed out on formal schooling to complete their Grade 10 education through an accelerated program.
- Digital Innovation: Using AI and predictive analytics to identify "hotspots" where girls are most likely to be out of school, ensuring targeted and efficient intervention
