Role

Step into a transformative role at the School of Continuing Education and University Resource Centre (SCE-URC), enhancing access to justice for vulnerable communities through capacity building and legal education. The position calls for dedicated professionals eager to drive systemic change by empowering lawyers, para-legals, and civil society.

Responsibilities

  • Impart continuing legal education to lawyers, focusing on legal updates, clinical law, and ethics for those helping vulnerable communities.
  • Build and deliver training programmes for para-legals in collaboration with institutional partners, widening access to legal support.
  • Develop a faculty pool using a Training of Trainers model to expand reach.
  • Teach and train across SCE-URC’s programmes, covering disciplines like Governance, Gender Justice, Child Rights, Constitutionalism, and Democracy.
  • Design, develop, and deliver high-quality, stakeholder-driven training programmes; curate learning materials; and set curriculum outlines and session plans.
  • Orient visiting faculty and organisation leaders, and lead ongoing capacity-building for lawyers, para-legals, and trainers.
  • Monitor content effectiveness; ensure timely reporting and contribute to assessment for participant learning.
  • Take part in developing new courses in response to evolving stakeholder needs.
  • Support other University programmes, especially those catering to wider capacity development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Law, Legal Studies, or relevant social science field.
  • Minimum eight years’ experience in training, capacity-building, curriculum development, or direct legal practice and mentoring lawyers.
  • Proficiency in curriculum design and delivery in both English and Hindi; able to conduct short courses for CSOs’ frontline functionaries, particularly lawyers.
  • Basic experience in monitoring learning outcomes.
  • Critical reflection and strong communication skills in English and Hindi.
  • Extensive travel; collaborative and team-oriented ethos.

Desirable:

  • Specialisation in legal areas affecting children, women, dalits and adivasis, labour, or issues such as land, forests, and social security.
  • Experience with access to justice initiatives, litigation, and strong CSO networks, or work with government bodies.
