Role Overview:
The Public Policy Researcher will contribute to policy research, data analysis, and pilot program implementation in the employment ecosystem. The role is ideal for professionals passionate about real-world impact, public policy, and economic development.
Key Responsibilities:
The researcher will be responsible for a combination of the following:
1. Information Consolidation & Communication:
- Track and consolidate key developments across the employment and skilling ecosystem.
- Analyze and synthesize economic and government data using Stata, R, and Python.
- Monitor news, research, and expert commentary on youth employment and skilling.
- Evaluate government programs, gathering ground-level feedback.
- Produce concise policy briefs with clear, actionable recommendations.
- Develop multimedia content for stakeholder engagement (highly desirable).
- Assist in managing a public data website for employment-related research.
- Publish a regular policy newsletter to inform stakeholders.
2. Supporting On-Ground Pilot Projects:
- Design and implement pilot programs in 2-3 districts to enhance employment potential.
- Engage with government representatives (MPs, MLAs, DMs, Mission Directors) to drive change.
- Track, analyze, and report progress on pilot initiatives.
- Manage a team of interns and research assistants for project execution.
- Convene discussions, workshops, and stakeholder meetings on topical issues.
- Oversee social media and online presence to engage relevant stakeholders.
Eligibility Criteria:
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Background in development economics, public policy, or political economy.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (exceptional candidates with less experience may be considered).
- Advanced proficiency in Stata or R (Python is a plus).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical abilities and experience handling large datasets.
- Ability to engage with policymakers, government officials, and stakeholders at the district level.
- Self-driven, adaptive, and comfortable working in fluid environments.
- Empathy for young people and a deep understanding of the political economy of employment and skilling.
