The global economy is changing rapidly, and one of the most pressing challenges is a severe shortage of workers. By 2030, high-income countries are projected to face a shortfall of nearly 50 million workers, rising to 120–160 million by 2040. India, with its young population and dynamic workforce, is uniquely placed to help bridge this gap. Already, Indian migrants send home $125 billion annually in remittances—equivalent to 3% of India’s GDP—yet this represents only a fraction of the country’s potential.

The GATI Foundation was established to harness this opportunity while ensuring migration remains safe, ethical, and beneficial to all stakeholders. As an ecosystem enabler, GATI addresses the structural barriers that limit India’s capacity to become a trusted migration partner: visa restrictions, variable skill accreditation, financial constraints, and worker protection. By focusing on systemic reform—rather than piecemeal interventions—GATI aims to transform India’s role in global workforce mobility.
The Foundation’s work is centred around four priorities: building high-impact migration corridors with trusted destination countries; aligning worker skill standards with international requirements; unlocking financial access so workers can afford safe migration; and ensuring robust systems of welfare and protection for workers abroad. These actions not only support millions of individuals in seeking livelihoods overseas but also strengthen India’s economy through steady, sustainable remittances.

GATI’s approach is inherently collaborative. The organisation convenes governments, private employers, financial institutions, and civil society groups to co-create systemic solutions. By anchoring strong public-private partnerships, GATI ensures that opportunities for overseas employment are not just available but also safe, dignified, and sustainable.
At its core, the GATI Foundation is driven by the belief that mobility, when well-managed, can be a powerful tool for reducing poverty, creating prosperity, and boosting national growth. With an ambitious vision and a structured approach to institution-building, GATI is helping India step confidently into its role as a global workforce leader while bringing dignity and opportunity to millions of aspiring migrants.
