ComMutiny

ComMutiny is a thriving movement that puts young people centre-stage. Founded in 2008, ComMutiny grew out of the belief that real change starts with an internal “mutiny” in every youth: awakening a sense of possibility, social hope, and active citizenship. Through its national network, ComMutiny brings together more than 160 youth-centric organisations across 18 states, cultivating vibrant ecosystems where every young person can discover themselves as a “Jagrik” – a self-aware, active citizen.

Every day, ComMutiny builds the famed “5th Space”: a place beyond family, friends, work, or recreation where youth truly belong, co-govern, and effect meaningful change. Here, social inclusion, freedom, and personal growth aren’t just buzzwords—they are lived values. ComMutiny’s collective action runs deep: from youth leadership programs and creative toolkits to bold public initiatives on climate action, gender, and democracy.

ComMutiny’s award-winning coalitions, like vartaLeap, unite civil society, government, media, and education to design and scale innovations that mainstream youth-led change in India. Facilitators work hand-in-hand with young people, coaching them through self-exploration and supporting their social action journeys. At its core, ComMutiny believes that empowering youth is key to transforming communities, societies, and the planet.

VartaLeap Coalition and ComMutiny: The Youth Collective bring together 130+ youth-led and youth-engaging organisations. We work to build a world where young people grow as Jagriks—self-awakened citizens who are both making change and being the change.
