M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF)

Founded by Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, architect of India’s Green Revolution, MSSRF has advanced a unique community-led, science-led, pro-nature and pro-poor approach for over three decades. The foundation works to address urgent challenges in biodiversity, coastal systems, nutrition, digital knowledge, and gender equity in the face of the climate crisis. MSSRF is known for connecting field-level innovation with policy influence, guided by the vision of "biohappiness"—well-being from harmony between people and nature.

Role

This is a senior leadership role responsible for amplifying MSSRF’s voice globally, strengthening donor partnerships, and building narratives that convey the transformative power of science in shaping sustainable futures. You will combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution, bridging science, community, policy, and practice with clarity and conviction.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the institutional communications strategy, translating research and field insights into compelling stories for diverse audiences, and positioning MSSRF as a trusted thought leader.

  • Strengthen MSSRF’s presence in national and international conversations on sustainability, climate change, and food systems. Forge partnerships with media, research institutions, and civil society to amplify the work and support policy influence.
  • Lead the digital strategy across the website, social media, newsletters, and multimedia. Ensure high visual and editorial quality, brand alignment, and manage external creative partners.
  • Provide communication leadership for high-profile events, launches, and campaigns. Work with program teams to design knowledge products and align campaigns with institutional priorities.
  • Build and mentor the communications and outreach team, fostering a culture of creativity and accountability. Strengthen internal knowledge sharing, ensuring field stories inform wider communication efforts.
