Breakthrough

Breakthrough works to change the social norms that limit women and girls from reaching their full potential. They engage with adolescents and young people (ages 11-24) to build their agency and skills to challenge these norms. Over the last 25 years, their work has reached nearly 2.3 million young people, inspiring a generation to push for a more equal world.

Role

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead Breakthrough's overall fundraising strategy to ensure financial sustainability. This role is key to shaping institutional strategy, building high-impact partnerships, and representing the organisation externally.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet annual and multi-year financial goals.
  • Lead donor engagement across philanthropic foundations, high-net-worth individuals, CSR, and individual giving.
  • Oversee the design and submission of compelling grant proposals, concept notes, and donor reports, ensuring quality and deadlines are met.
  • Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities to diversify revenue streams.
  • Build and maintain long-term, trust-based relationships with existing and potential donors.
  • Represent the organisation in donor forums, conferences, and high-level meetings.
  • Inspire and lead a high-performing fundraising team with clarity and empathy.
  • Set performance metrics, track progress, and foster a culture of excellence.
  • Collaborate with programme, finance, and communications teams to ensure alignment in proposals and reporting.
  • Contribute to organisational strategy and direction as part of the senior leadership team.

Requirements

  • 13-15 years of relevant experience in fundraising, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of raising multi-crore grants from diverse donors (e.g., institutional donors, foundations, CSR, HNIs).
  • Strong understanding of the social impact space, preferably with experience in gender rights or feminist movements.
  • Excellent proposal writing, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience in team leadership, strategy development, and senior stakeholder management.
  • Deep understanding of compliance and donor reporting in the nonprofit sector.
  • A strategic thinker with an eye for detail.
  • Persuasive communicator with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Deep commitment to gender justice, equity, and inclusion.
  • A collaborative and values-driven leader.
