Janaagraha stands at the forefront of urban transformation in India, championing the cause of better cities for all. Established with a vision to redefine urban governance, Janaagraha’s mission is to catalyse systemic change in how Indian cities are planned, financed, and managed. The organisation’s work is rooted in the belief that empowered local governments, robust public finance systems, and active citizen participation are essential for sustainable urban development.
Over the years, Janaagraha has partnered with Union and State governments, constitutional agencies, and urban local bodies, working on critical reforms that impact millions. Its multifaceted approach includes policy research, advocacy, capacity building, and on-ground project execution. By bridging the gap between policy and practice, Janaagraha ensures that reforms are not only conceptualised but also translated into measurable outcomes.
A hallmark of Janaagraha’s work is its focus on public finance management (PFM) in cities. Recognising that financial health is the backbone of effective governance, the organisation has launched several initiatives to modernise municipal finance, streamline budgeting processes, and enhance accountability in public spending. The Women in Public Finance Fellowship is a testament to this commitment. Launched in 2024, this unique fellowship nurtures professionals and municipal finance officers, equipping them with the skills and exposure needed to become reform leaders in the PFM sector.
