Change doesn’t just happen. It’s inspired, nurtured, and championed by resilient women. Lal Sakhi – The Women’s Voice Foundation has become a beacon of hope in the landscape of women’s empowerment in India, focusing on the neglected issue of period poverty and broader community development. Founded by Preeti Jangra, the non-profit works tirelessly to bring sustainable menstrual hygiene, healthcare, skills, and livelihood opportunities to remote rural and tribal communities.

At the heart of Lal Sakhi’s impact is its drive to challenge social taboos and address menstrual health inequality. The organisation’s flagship initiative, Project Dharti, mobilises community Change Agents, local women who receive training and resources to promote health and sustainability amongst their peers. Together, they lead free counselling sessions, distribute eco-friendly menstrual cups, and educate women on managing cycles with dignity and cost-effective, safe products. Their efforts have reached over 10,000 women in five states, establishing cultures of sustainable hygiene where disposables were once the norm.

However, Lal Sakhi is much more than a health advocate. Their Skill Connect and Dignity programmes tackle adolescent empowerment and financial literacy, helping rural women and girls in Uttar Pradesh to develop new livelihood skills, understand digital finance, and run small enterprises. Through regular workshops, community events, and expert-led sessions, the organisation helps participants realise their potential, build confidence, and expand opportunities right where they live.

Lal Sakhi has also created Vachanlaya, a unique learning and growth platform for community discussions, expert lectures, and skills exchange. Its work powerfully aligns with India’s sustainable development goals, particularly around gender equality, universal healthcare, and responsible consumption by promoting reusable products and reducing plastic waste.

Driven by an engaged leadership team and strategic partners, Lal Sakhi exemplifies a mission where compassion meets innovation. The organisation welcomes collaboration—with donors, corporates, and volunteers—always keen to build partnerships that fuel grassroots change. For many in Saharanpur and beyond, Lal Sakhi redefines what communities can achieve when women’s voices are heard and supported at every turn.
