Location: Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh (with regular travel to Sheopur and Shivpuri)
Experience: Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh
Compensation: ₹40,000 - ₹45,000 /month

Role

The Lead of Land Rights guides a dedicated team to help Sahariya families secure their land and find justice. You will bridge the gap between grassroots legal aid and high-level policy work, ensuring immediate land disputes are resolved while building better systems for the future.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of land rights projects and workplans aligned with community goals.
  • Guide the legal team in identifying land disputes and navigating revenue court processes.
  • Support Sahariya households in securing relief through administrative and legal channels.
  • Manage documentation systems to turn field data into evidence for policy reform and advocacy.
  • Build civic-tech solutions and processes to address land governance issues at a systemic level.
  • Coordinate with government departments and revenue authorities to solve community challenges.
  • Supervise lawyers, researchers, and paralegals to ensure effective team operations.
  • Represent the organization in meetings with partners, funders, and government stakeholders.
  • Assist in writing research briefs, reports, and public statements regarding land justice.
  • Collaborate with other internal teams to link land rights with broader social justice efforts.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Law (LLB).
  • 4-5 years of professional experience in research, policy, or advocacy in the development sector.
  • Deep understanding of land governance systems, revenue processes, and land records.
  • Familiarity with the specific challenges faced by PVTGs is preferred.
  • Experience in a supervisory or leadership role managing a team.
  • Proficiency in both Hindi and English (written and oral).
  • Strong commitment to working with marginalized or indigenous communities.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships with donor organizations and partner NGOs.
  • Technical skills in managing data and using digital tools for administrative tracking.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to represent the community effectively.
