Leadership for Equity

When millions of India’s poorest children continue to depend on government schools, the strength of the public education system determines their future. Leadership For Equity (LFE), officially registered as the Leadership For Skilled Education Foundation, is an organisation committed to transforming this system from within. Believing that true equity in education requires systemic change, LFE works hand-in-hand with state and district education bodies to strengthen governance, support teachers, and build strong leadership within the system.

At the heart of LFE’s approach is a focus on capacity building. The organisation trains and coaches government education officers—ranging from Academic and Administrative Officers to Block and Cluster-level mentors—to improve programme design, implementation, and classroom practices. By equipping this vital middle management layer of the system, LFE ensures that change is not temporary but embedded in the way public education functions.

Since its inception, LFE has partnered with state governments and institutions across Maharashtra, Haryana, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, and Nagaland. With 9 formal agreements and collaborations spanning State Councils, DIETs, and Zilla Parishads, the organisation has co-created multi-year programmes targeting foundational learning, teacher training, digital tools, and leadership development. Through its initiatives, LFE has directly impacted 2000+ education officers and 40,200+ teachers, in turn influencing the learning journeys of 8.2 million children.

The organisation also plays a role in research and policy advisory, contributing data-driven insights that strengthen institutional decision-making and accountability. Its work is supported by a network of government partners, philanthropies, corporates, and fellow nonprofits. Together, they form the collective ecosystem that LFE believes is crucial to solving the complex challenge of educational inequity.
