Pratham Education Foundation
One of India’s largest and most impactful education NGOs, Pratham Education Foundation was founded in 1995 in Mumbai to provide quality education to children in urban slums. With a reach spanning over 25 states and union territories, Pratham is dedicated to improving learning outcomes and ensuring every child is not only in school but also learning well. The organisation’s hallmark is its innovative, low-cost, and scalable programs that complement government efforts, focusing on foundational literacy and numeracy.
Pratham is best known for its Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach, which groups children by learning needs rather than age, significantly improving reading and arithmetic skills. The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), conducted by Pratham, is the largest household survey in India and a crucial tool for education policy dialogue.
Driven by its mission to bridge gaps in education, Pratham works closely with communities, schools, families, and governments to create sustainable change. It is supported by a vast network of dedicated volunteers and partners committed to transforming India’s educational landscape.
