PlanetRead is a non-profit organization. Their goal is a world where everyone can read. They want to make sure people have access to good and affordable reading materials in their own language. Their main idea is called Same Language Subtitling, or SLS for short. Here is how it works. Many people love to watch movies or listen to film songs. PlanetRead adds subtitles to this content in the same language that is being spoken. This turns watching TV into a simple reading lesson. Because people watch these shows anyway, they learn to read without even trying.

Role

A leadership position focused on building a strong, fair, and legally sound workplace that supports our mission of literacy for all.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and review of HR policies and manuals to match labor laws and donor requirements.
  • Coordinate all statutory filings, registrations, and renewals across different states.
  • Manage payroll processing and deductions like PF, ESI, and TDS in partnership with the Finance team.
  • Align salary structures and leave policies with updated labor codes.
  • Oversee the full employee journey from onboarding and contracts to exit processes.
  • Strengthen HR data systems and create progress dashboards for leadership.
  • Coordinate recruitment and workforce planning to meet team goals.
  • Manage performance review cycles and staff development programs.
  • Address employee grievances and ensure the POSH committee functions effectively.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing detailed HR and risk reports.
  • Travel to field offices to lead policy orientation and staff engagement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration.
  • Experience in HR management, preferably within the social sector.
  • Fluent in English and Hindi; knowledge of Tamil is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of Indian labor laws and statutory compliance.
  • Strong technical skills in HRIS software and Microsoft Excel for data management.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to manage diverse teams.
  • Ability to handle sensitive employee relations with empathy and fairness.
