Teach For India (TFI) is a nationwide movement tackling one of India’s most urgent challenges—educational inequity. Founded in 2009, TFI recruits exceptional graduates and professionals to serve as full-time teachers in under-resourced schools for two years, transforming learning for children from low-income communities. Role

As Manager, Regional Partnerships at Teach For India (TFI) in Chennai, you will lead initiatives that engage government, low-income private school ecosystems, NGOs, alumni, and community stakeholders to drive systemic change in education. You will work towards the regional strategic roadmap by fostering partnerships, influencing policy and practice, and creating opportunities for sustainable impact. This role is both strategic and operational—requiring relationship building, programme design, and execution—while serving as part of the City Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

1. Building a Movement for Educational Equity (65–80%)

  • Develop and implement long- and short-term regional partnership strategies aligned to TFI’s vision and goals.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key government officials, NGOs, and community leaders to create enabling conditions for educational equity.
  • Design and deliver initiatives that extend impact beyond TFI classrooms—such as internships, fellowships, and special projects with government bodies.
  • Secure champions within government systems to integrate progressive strategies in education.
  • Facilitate collaboration spaces for collective action across the education landscape.

2. Build More Leaders (BML) Programme (5–20%)

  • Promote and adopt the BML programme among school leaders, teachers, and partner organisations.
  • Identify and onboard new strategic partners from government and low-income schools.
  • Oversee programme customisation, delivery, and adoption for impact.

3. Child Safety & Additional Responsibilities (≤15%)

  • Co-lead the City Child Protection Committee, ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
  • Collaborate with alumni entrepreneurs, regional alumni committees, and partner organisations to expand opportunities for TFI Fellows and alumni.
  • Support alumni governance and policy initiatives in the region.
  • Contribute to city events—summits, immersion spaces, retreats—and national projects.

4. Leadership & Organisational Contribution

  • Serve as an ambassador for TFI’s mission and values.
  • Contribute to recruitment, fundraising, volunteering, and movement-building efforts.
  • Commit time in classrooms to deepen understanding of TFI’s work.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience managing teams/projects to measurable outcomes at scale.
  • Proven negotiation and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience influencing without formal authority.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Adaptability to change and the ability to manage priorities in unstructured environments.
  • Excellent self-management, time management, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred

  • Familiarity or experience with government systems.
  • Prior experience in the education/development sector.
  • Track record of building and managing high-functioning teams.
  • Ability to design high-quality learning experiences for adults.
  • Fluency in Tamil (mandatory).
