Role
A field-based community leader dedicated to strengthening local health systems. You will work with women’s Self-Help Groups and local clinics to improve the prevention, testing, and treatment of non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension in rural Maharashtra.
Responsibilities
- Conduct village-level profiling to identify health gaps and households at risk of chronic diseases.
- Support the creation of local health action plans with community leaders and women’s groups.
- Lead health awareness and screening activities during regular Self-Help Group (SHG) meetings.
- Coordinate with ASHAs and ANMs to ensure patients get the right medical referrals and follow-up care.
- Facilitate sessions on healthy living, nutrition, and reducing tobacco or alcohol risks.
- Manage community feedback to identify and fix bottlenecks in getting medicines or doctor visits.
- Document successful local health practices to help other villages learn and improve.
Requirements
- Minimum 10+2 (Higher Secondary) education.
- At least 2 years of experience in community development, health, or SHG-based programs.
- Strong understanding of Maharashtra’s rural community structures (NRLM, VO, CLF).
- Fluency in the local language to effectively communicate with village residents and frontline workers.
- Basic technical skills to track health data and report service gaps.
- Excellent leadership and group facilitation skills to drive behaviour change in large groups.
- High level of physical stamina and willingness to travel extensively within rural field settings.
