Nutgraph Social Data Lab supports organizations and institutions in identifying trends, informing policies, and advancing actionable research by collecting and aggregating micro-level field data and translating it into evidence-based insights.
Drawing on experience and collaborations with Princeton University, Global Health Advocacy Incubator, Pulitzer Center, Queen Mary University, and Centre for Science and Environment, Nutgraph is committed to producing data-driven insights from the ground using innovative research methods to help clients drive social change.
The name itself reflects their approach a "nutgraph" refers to a critical element in storytelling the paragraph that connects a micro story to a broader narrative, where the dots join and the meaning scales.
Nutgraph operates across 28 states, monitoring 938 sites, with a network of 50+ researchers across India. The organization has over 8 years of experience and a team of 125 members and researchers.
Nutgraph works across five key themes:
- Energy Transition: Research on renewable energy, offshore wind, and responsible siting of energy projects.
- Natural Resources Governance: Tracking how land, forests, and minerals are governed and contested.
- Land Use Monitoring: Persistent monitoring of land use changes and conflicts across India, including through their flagship project, Land Conflict Watch.
- Public Health Systems: Research on health access, water, and welfare.
- Tech Policy & AI Accountability: Research on algorithms, welfare technology, and digital governance.
As part of their work, Nutgraph founded Land Conflict Watch a first-of-its-kind database that tracks and monitors land conflicts to inform policy decisions. Other active projects include Responsible Renewable Energy Siting, 100 Stories of Commons, Welfare Algorithms, Water Access Tracker, and Legal Terrain of India's Commons.
