PlanetRead is a non-profit organization. Their goal is a world where everyone can read. They want to make sure people have access to good and affordable reading materials in their own language. Their main idea is called Same Language Subtitling, or SLS for short.

Here is how it works. Many people love to watch movies or listen to film songs. PlanetRead adds subtitles to this content in the same language that is being spoken. This turns watching TV into a simple reading lesson. Because people watch these shows anyway, they learn to read without even trying.
The team has done a lot of work in India. They teamed up with the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad to study how this helps. Their hard work led to a new national rule. By 2025, half of all entertainment shows on TV in India must have these subtitles. This is a big step to help millions of people learn to read.
They also create things called AniBooks. These are animated stories with subtitles. They are made for children to help them learn on any screen. PlanetRead worked with a social enterprise called BookBox to make over 100 of these stories in more than 50 languages. Studies in schools show that these books help children get much better at reading.
PlanetRead uses evidence to guide their work. They partner with governments and other groups to make sure literacy is treated as a basic right. Their team uses technology and storytelling to bridge the gap in literacy. They believe that if we are creative, we can help everyone on the planet learn how to read.
