About the Role
Position: GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist
Key Responsibilities
- Data Handling: Acquire and process satellite imagery, including data capturing, digitization, and image classification.
- Image Processing: Conduct image rectification, classification, and produce GIS maps for various projects.
- Spatial Analysis: Design geodatabases, perform spatial analysis, and contribute to decision-making processes for wildlife and forest conservation.
- Change Detection: Detect land-use and land-cover changes and create scientific reports based on findings.
- Project Deliverables: Prepare and submit project databases and reports, including map presentations and advanced geographic analysis.
- Reporting: Develop monthly reports on activities, compile GIS and remote sensing data, and manage projects.
- Skills Development: Contribute to Mission LiFE and the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP).
- Map Design: Design and produce maps as per GIS project needs.
- Programming Knowledge: Utilize programming languages like Python and R for data analysis, modelling, and project management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Master’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field with expertise in Remote Sensing and GIS.
- Experience: 0-3 years in GIS and remote sensing roles, preferably in conservation.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ESRI products, ERDAS Imagine, Google Earth Engine, Python, and R.
- Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills, with sound knowledge of computer applications.
