The Clinton Health Access Initiative
The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a global health organization. It works to save lives and reduce disease in low-and middle-income countries by helping governments build sustainable, high-quality health systems. In India, CHAI works in partnership with its affiliate, the William J Clinton Foundation (WJCF). WJCF is an independent not-for-profit organisation that supports the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on high-priority health initiatives, including infectious diseases, cancer, maternal and child health, and digital health.

Role
This role supports the Program Management Unit (PMU) in transitioning the national disease surveillance network (from NPSP to IDSP). You will help create strategies, manage daily operations, and work closely with government bodies like NCDC and MoHFW to ensure program milestones are met.
Responsibilities
- Develop strategic roadmaps and implementation plans for the surveillance network transition.
- Build, mentor, and guide the team to implement program activities.
- Create and use a monitoring and evaluation framework to track program performance.
- Manage the development of key interventions and systems for the public health system.
- Build strong relationships with health leadership at the Central (CSU) and State Surveillance Units (SSUs).
- Support CSU, IDSP (MoHFW) leadership in monitoring and evaluating program activities.
- Identify and manage potential risks and challenges during implementation.
- Document and share lessons learned through articles, workshops, and other events.
- Assist the program leadership with grant management, including writing reports, managing budgets, and engaging partners.
- Help create financial management plans for resource allocation.
- Support other infectious disease surveillance initiatives, including proposal development.
- Build and maintain trust with government stakeholders and development partners.
- Support with other responsibilities as requested by the program leadership.
Requirements
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in management, public health, public policy, or a related field.
- 8+ years of work experience in public health, management consulting, public policy, or similar areas.
- Experience working with government stakeholders and knowledge of the public health system.
- Prior experience in leading workstreams using programmatic health data is preferred.
- Proven ability to perform well in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks at once.
- Willingness to travel frequently within India.
