Sauramandala Foundation

Sauramandala Foundation

Sauramandala Foundation is a non-governmental organisation established in 2018, based in Shillong, Meghalaya. It works tirelessly to address the unique challenges faced by remote and hard-to-reach communities. By focusing on collaborative action, the foundation supports social and economic upliftment in areas that often go underserved.

The organisation’s vision reflects its strong belief in accelerating positive change. Sauramandala envisions a future where even the most inaccessible communities experience meaningful progress—socially and economically—through cooperative efforts. It strives to translate this vision into reality by crafting community-centric, practical solutions that respect local needs and strengths.

At the very heart of Sauramandala’s approach lies its “Centre for Accelerated Development.” This centre marks the foundation’s commitment to fast-tracking inclusive development through thoughtful, collective initiatives. The office is located in Nongrim Hills, Shillong—serving as both a coordination hub and a hub for ideas that bring remote communities closer to opportunity and empowerment.

Projects

Sauramandala Foundation works through its Centre for Accelerated Development, which co-creates solutions with communities by bringing the right partners together.

Its key initiatives include the PRIME-Sauramandala Rural Entrepreneurship Fellowship, where young changemakers mentor rural entrepreneurs, and the Chief Minister’s Youth Centres, creative spaces that encourage innovation, arts, sports, and learning.

The foundation also leads cultural and educational projects like the Forgotten Folklore Project, which digitises indigenous stories and brings them into classrooms, and the Model Anganwadi initiative, which builds child-friendly, eco-designed centres for early learning.

In health, Sauramandala powers clinics with solar energy through the Health Energy Nexus and is creating climate-resilient healthcare centres across Meghalaya. In livelihoods, it supports beekeeping through Apiculture Mission 2.0and promotes SALT farming, a sustainable method suited for hilly terrains.

Together, these projects bring lasting social, economic, and cultural impact to remote communities.
