Role
This full-time role anchors end-to-end research within LFE’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Technology team, translating field insights into high-quality studies, briefs, and policy recommendations centred on social and educational equity. The role blends research design, fieldwork in Maharashtra, rigorous analysis, and stakeholder engagement to inform government system strengthening. It suits a researcher with strong qualitative skills, working knowledge of quantitative tools, and comfort navigating public systems.
Responsibilities
Program support and knowledge management
- Build research frameworks and tools for government-facing projects (surveys, interview guides, FGDs).
- Organise shared knowledge: structure drives, standardise templates, and collate cross-vertical resources.
- Bring a systems change lens to programme design and evidence use.
Fieldwork
- Conduct landscape studies and primary data collection across urban, rural, and tribal contexts in Maharashtra.
- Run interviews, FGDs and surveys; maintain detailed field notes, logs and media.
Stakeholder coordination
- Plan and lead meetings with experts, partners, government officers and key respondents; set agendas, capture minutes, and drive follow-through.
- Coordinate part-time field researchers/interns; collaborate with internal programme leads.
Research design and reporting
- Write research and grant proposals; craft clear abstracts and ToRs.
- Conduct literature reviews; design research plans and timelines; manage IRB/consent and ethics where applicable.
- Clean, transcribe and analyse qualitative and quantitative data; synthesise findings into reports, policy notes and presentations.
Organisation development and mentorship
- Contribute to team rituals and learning spaces; mentor junior members.
Requirements
- Master’s degree with specialisation in social science/policy research; backgrounds in Education, Social Sciences, Social Work or Public Policy preferred.
- 3+ years of experience executing research/projects end to end.
- Strong qualitative research skills (design, fieldwork, coding, synthesis).
- Working proficiency with analysis tools such as R/SPSS for quant and Atlas.ti/NVivo for qual; strong Excel/Google Sheets.
- Excellent written and oral communication; Marathi proficiency preferred.
- Understanding of education policy in India, social equity and development discourse.
- Ability to take initiative in semi-structured environments; adaptable, resourceful, and resilient through ambiguity.
- Relationship-building across public and private stakeholders; strong presentations and document design.
