The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI)

CHAI is a global health organisation dedicated to saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries. CHAI collaborates with governments and the private sector to establish high-quality, sustainable health systems.

Founded in 2002 to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic, CHAI has expanded its focus to include infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and broader health system strengthening initiatives. CHAI operates in over 40 countries, working closely with governments to maximise sustainable impact.

In India, CHAI partners with the William J. Clinton Foundation (WJCF) to support the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare across various health priorities, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis, immunisation, and more.

About the Project

The C19RM project addresses the lack of accessible X-ray machines and qualified radiologists in India, which delays TB screening and diagnosis. Using portable X-ray machines integrated with Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) software, the project aims to improve case findings and reduce delays in diagnosis.

The project is implemented across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttarakhand, and Haryana, focusing on generating local evidence to scale up these innovations using domestic budgets.
