The Apprentice Project (TAP) is a Great Place to WorkⓇ certified, for-impact organization working to transform government and low-income schools by providing holistic development to children. Our mission is to empower students from marginalized backgrounds in India by nurturing creativity, self-confidence, and problem-solving abilities. We use innovative technology, such as AI and NLP-powered WhatsApp chatbots, to deliver co-curricular electives in Visual and Performing Arts, Coding, STEM, and Financial Literacy.
Currently, TAP is impacting over 34,000 students across ten states in India, with goals to reach 100,000 students by 2024-25. Students engaged with TAP demonstrate a 2x improvement in creativity and a 74% boost in self-confidence.
About The Role
Location: Remote
Time Commitment: 10 to 12 hours per week
Compensation: Rs. 500 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of conversational flows for TAP Buddy, a WhatsApp bot that engages students.
- Collaborate with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to translate user needs into engaging conversational experiences.
- Design intuitive conversation flows in Hinglish, reflecting TAP Buddy’s friendly persona.
- Develop best practices for conversation design, including intent mapping, entity recognition, error handling, and fallback strategies.
- Conduct user research, A/B testing, and analysis to optimize conversational flows.
- Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and user experience across all interactions.
- Monitor and refine conversation performance for improved user engagement.
- Document conversation flows for seamless integration with developers.
- Mentor junior conversation designers and help develop internal design guidelines.
Must Have:
- Strong understanding of conversational AI, NLP, and dialogue systems.
- Knowledge of user experience (UX) principles applied to conversation design.
- Ability to analyze conversational data to improve user experiences.
Good to Have:
- Experience designing for WhatsApp bots or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with conversation design tools like Voiceflow or Botmock.
- Knowledge of AI, machine learning concepts, and WhatsApp Business API.
- Experience working in the education or non-profit sector.
- Previous experience mentoring small teams.
- Familiarity with A/B testing and user research methodologies.
Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in user experience design.
- Proficiency in Hinglish and designing content for young audiences.
- Strong understanding of design principles, including typography, color theory, and layout techniques.
- Ability to create simple graphic design collaterals (posters, stickers, GIFs, videos).
- Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
