Role
The Study Counsellor acts as a bridge between the project and the community. The purpose of this role is to lead school and village-level engagement by educating students and parents, obtaining consent for health programs, and providing emotional and informational support for TB screening and follow-up.
Responsibilities
- Organize and lead awareness sessions for students, parents, and teachers regarding TB and health projects.
- Manage the informed consent process by explaining study details clearly to families and guardians.
- Coordinate school visits and community meetings alongside the District Coordinator.
- Provide supportive pre-screening and post-referral counselling to address fears or misconceptions.
- Collaborate with local health workers (ASHAs/ANMs) and school staff to ensure smooth program delivery.
- Conduct home visits when necessary to follow up on missed appointments or screening outcomes.
- Maintain precise records of all counselling sessions and community interactions.
- Prepare regular reports and success stories to document the impact of the field work.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Public Health, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in counselling or community-based health programs.
- Previous experience working with children, adolescents, or school health initiatives is highly preferred.
- Strong communication skills in Hindi and English (spoken and written); knowledge of local dialects is a plus.
- Proficiency in basic computer usage for data recording and reporting.
- High level of empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to simplify complex medical information.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a field-based environment.
- Willingness to travel daily to various schools and communities within the assigned district.
