Air Pollution Action Group (A-PAG)

A-PAG aims to reduce air pollution in Indian cities. Our initial focus has been on the Indo-Gangetic Plain, where the scale and severity of air pollution are significantly higher than in most other parts of the country. More recently, we have begun expanding our work to additional states such as Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, reflecting the growing recognition of air pollution as a critical public health challenge.

Role

This is a purpose-driven leadership position focused on shaping the policy landscape for cleaner air in India. You will bridge the gap between research and action, providing analytical support to the Commission on Air Quality Management and helping state governments turn environmental data into effective public policy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monitoring and analysis of political, economic, and social trends to identify critical policy gaps in the air pollution sector.
  • Coordinate the development of evidence-based position papers, policy briefs, and research documents to guide government decision-making.
  • Manage the design and planning of pilot projects and strategic initiatives, defining clear goals and KPIs for clean air action plans.
  • Collaborate with senior government officials, environmental experts, and think tanks to build support for high-impact policy reforms.
  • Support the Commission on Air Quality Management (NCR) by providing technical and analytical insights across various pollution sources.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Public Policy, Environmental Policy, or Social Sciences is preferred (Bachelor’s degree with strong academic standing is required).
  • 6-8 years of professional experience in policy research, ideally working alongside government bodies or the development sector.
  • Fluency in both Hindi and English is essential for stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong technical skills in research and data analysis to assess complex environmental issues.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior policymakers and build lasting partnerships.
  • A quick learner who can adapt to the evolving science and regulations of the air pollution landscape.
  • A deep, demonstrated passion for solving India’s environmental challenges.
