Nutrition International

Nutrition International has been a steadfast partner in India’s fight against malnutrition for over 25 years, working closely with the government and state agencies to improve nutrition for vulnerable populations. Despite India’s rapid economic growth, malnutrition remains a critical challenge—nearly one-third of children under five are underweight or stunted, and anemia affects over half of women and young children.

Focused on improving the health of pregnant women, newborns, children, and adolescents, Nutrition International supports large-scale interventions that include micronutrient supplementation, food fortification, and strengthening health systems. Key initiatives involve distributing fortified rice and double-fortified salt through social safety net programs in states like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Telangana, reaching millions with vital nutrients that prevent anemia and support healthy development.

In addition, Nutrition International advances maternal and newborn care by enhancing essential health services and promoting community practices such as early breastfeeding and infant nutrition. The organization also drives adolescent nutrition programs, especially for girls, through weekly iron and folic acid supplementation alongside education and counselling.

The foundation of Nutrition International’s work lies in rigorous implementation research, capacity building, behavior change communication, and advocacy to scale up nutrition programs and ensure sustainability. Collaborations with multiple government ministries and partners enable a coordinated approach that integrates nutrition-sensitive strategies across sectors.

Through these efforts, Nutrition International strives to reduce malnutrition’s devastating toll on millions in India, helping children grow, communities thrive, and future generations flourish.
