Technical Officer (Epidemiology and Data Science)

Responsibilities
- Perform epidemiological analyses and develop novel analytical approaches related to infectious diseases.
- Analyse trends, transmission dynamics, and policy-relevant epidemiological features.
- Assess the impact of public health interventions like vaccination.
- Enhance tools (e.g., R packages) for better epidemiological analysis and visualisation.
- Prepare technical documents, summaries, and scientific manuscripts.
- Provide technical support and capacity building to WHO colleagues and partner organisations.
- Assist in updating regional strategies and guidelines.
- Submit an end-of-assignment report.
Qualifications
Education
- Essential: Degree in medicine, epidemiology, mathematics, economics, statistics, or a related health discipline.
- Desirable: Advanced degree (Master’s/Doctorate) in the above-mentioned fields.
Experience
Essential:
- 5+ years in statistical analysis, data science, or information management.
- Experience with infectious disease epidemiology and public health emergencies.
- Work experience in multicultural settings and coordination with health ministries.
Desirable:
- Experience in infectious disease modelling.
- Field experience in low- and middle-income countries.
- Prior experience with WHO, UN agencies, or international organisations.
Skills
- Proficiency in statistical tools (e.g., R, STATA).
- Expertise in infectious disease modelling, operational analysis, and public health surveillance.
- Strong scientific writing, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle diverse cultural/political elements.
Language Requirements
- Essential: Expert knowledge of English.
- Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of another WHO language.
Salary and Benefits
- Base Salary: Starting at USD 64,121 per annum.
- Post Adjustment: Approx. USD 2,608/month for New Delhi.
- Additional Benefits: 30 days annual leave, family allowances, home leave, and education grant for dependents.
