Urja Trust

Urja Trust

Urja Trust brings a sense of possibility and hope to Mumbai’s bustling streets, offering young women facing homelessness a chance to rebuild their lives with courage and dignity. Since its founding in 2011, Urja Trust has become a sanctuary where each woman’s journey is honoured, and her potential is celebrated. The organisation’s mission is to ensure that no young woman is left behind, regardless of her circumstances, and that she has the support needed to dream, heal, and thrive.

What sets Urja Trust apart is its unwavering commitment to holistic, person-centred care. The team understands that real transformation requires more than just meeting basic needs—it means nurturing self-worth, supporting mental health, and building pathways to independence. Through tailored education programmes, vocational training, and entrepreneurship support, Urja Trust helps women gain the skills and confidence to become self-reliant. Legal assistance, leadership workshops, and mentorship further empower women to stand up for their rights and make informed choices about their futures.

Urja Trust’s impact is not limited to individual lives. The organisation is a catalyst for broader change, using advocacy campaigns, research, and policy engagement to challenge the systems and attitudes that keep young women vulnerable. By working closely with government, civil society, and community partners, Urja Trust amplifies the voices of those who are too often unheard.

The stories emerging from Urja Trust are powerful: women who once felt invisible now lead workshops, return to school, secure jobs, and inspire others to believe in themselves. The organisation’s safe spaces have supported over 400 women, enabled more than 260 to access literacy education, and helped 300 into jobs or vocational training. Mental health support, legal aid, and community outreach are woven into every aspect of Urja’s work, ensuring that each woman’s journey is met with compassion and respect.
