Established in 1993, WOTR is a pioneering non-profit dedicated to revitalising rural India by rejuvenating ecosystems and building community resilience to climate change. Over three decades, WOTR has touched the lives of nearly 7 million people across more than 7,000 villages in 10 states. Their work goes beyond conventional development by integrating water and land management, climate-resilient agriculture, women’s empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, health, and nutrition into a holistic approach that restores both nature and communities.
WOTR’s unique strength lies in its ecosystem-based adaptation strategies that help rural communities harness local natural resources efficiently, enhancing agricultural productivity and income while conserving biodiversity. Their efforts have led to significant increases in water storage, forest cover, and farm incomes. The organisation also supports the formation and strengthening of self-help groups, creating pathways for women to become equal partners in development.
