WeLive Foundation

WeLive Foundation is a Bengaluru-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping young people transition from childcare institutions to independent adulthood. For thousands of care leavers in India, turning 18 is a critical and often overwhelming moment. Suddenly, they must leave the only home they have known, often with little more than a suitcase and a great deal of uncertainty about what comes next. WeLive Foundation was created to ensure these young adults are not alone during this vulnerable time.

Founded by a team with deep roots in the social sector, WeLive Foundation began when one of its founders, a former childcare institution warden, opened his own home to care leavers. This small act of kindness grew into a larger vision: to build a supportive ecosystem where care leavers can find safety, guidance, and the tools they need to thrive. Today, WeLive operates three residential centres in Bengaluru and Chennai, offering bridge programmes that last from six months to three years.

At WeLive’s centres, young people aged 18 to 23 find much more than just a roof over their heads. They receive nutritious meals, a small stipend, and, most importantly, the support of adult mentors and a vibrant peer community. The foundation’s programmes focus on work readiness, continuing education, and emotional well-being. Young residents are encouraged to finish their schooling, pursue higher education, or enrol in skill-building courses. Many work part-time or full-time, gaining valuable experience and saving for their future.

WeLive’s approach is holistic and person-centred. Each care leaver is paired with a mentor who serves as a friend, guide, and source of wisdom. Counsellors are available to help address trauma, mental health, and emotional challenges. The foundation also offers crisis support for those who need a safe place to stay while they figure out their next steps.

The core values of WeLive—Care, Respect, Affection, Freedom, and Trust (CRAFT)—shape every aspect of the organisation’s work. The team believes that healing and growth happen best in an environment where young people feel genuinely seen, accepted, and empowered. Programmes are flexible to meet individual needs, recognising that each care leaver’s journey is unique.

WeLive Foundation’s impact is visible in the stories of the young adults it supports. Over the past five years, more than 175 care leavers from over ten states have found stability, friendship, and opportunity through WeLive’s programmes. Many have completed their education, secured jobs in banks, retail, or corporate sectors, and even started their own ventures. The foundation also runs an organic store in Bengaluru, providing employment and a safe workspace for those who may not be ready for traditional jobs.

WeLive Foundation is more than just a safety net; it is a launchpad for young people to build independent, fulfilling lives. By offering mentorship, emotional support, and practical skills, WeLive ensures that care leavers know they are never alone—and that their futures are filled with hope and possibility.
