World Resources Institute

WRI India is a leading research organization dedicated to promoting environmentally sound and socially equitable development across the country. Legally registered as the India Resources Trust, WRI India draws inspiration from the World Resources Institute’s global mission to protect the Earth and enhance human well-being. With more than 250 researchers based in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, the organisation works across a range of sectors—climate, energy, food, land, water, cities, and transport—to find solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

Central to WRI India’s work is the belief that transformative change comes from robust research, practical proposals, and strong partnerships. The organization delivers objective information and actionable recommendations to governments, businesses, civil society, and local communities. Their approach is collaborative and people-centric, ensuring that diverse voices and perspectives shape their research and impact.

The Food, Land and Water program is a cornerstone of WRI India’s efforts. This team focuses on guiding India’s transition toward sustainable and resilient food and land use systems. They develop interdisciplinary, nature-based solutions such as landscape restoration and sustainable agriculture to mitigate climate impacts, enhance jobs and livelihoods, and improve nutritional security. The program also addresses food loss and waste, helping to create circular food systems that are better for people and the environment. The program involves a wide range of stakeholders—including governments, businesses, farmer producer organizations, and civil society—to inform land use strategies, bridge capacity gaps, and monitor progress. Their work is grounded in evidence and analysis, supporting communities to build resilience and create a restoration economy that benefits people, nature, and climate.
