About The Role
WRI India is seeking an Intern for the Climate Program to support their ongoing work with the Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in Surat. The internship focuses on helping MSMEs build resilience towards climate change impacts, developing capacity for decarbonization, and supporting a "just" transition through targeted skilling programs and climate finance access. This role will specifically engage with textile MSMEs in Surat, working on initiatives to reduce their vulnerability to climate change.
What You'll Do
The Climate Program Intern will support WRI India's work with the MSME sector in Surat, with responsibilities including:
- Supporting engagement with textile MSMEs in Surat, local partners, and other relevant stakeholders
- Assisting in creating knowledge products such as reports, statistical analysis, and data collection
- Supporting the team with documentation of key insights and learnings from stakeholder engagements
- Supporting pilot-testing of interventions, skill training, and other on-ground activities at the cluster and state level
- Contributing to research on climate resilience and low-carbon transition for MSMEs
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder Engagement: Support engagement with textile MSMEs in Surat, local partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Knowledge Production: Assist in creating knowledge products such as reports, statistical analysis, and data collection.
- Documentation: Support the team with documentation of key insights and learnings from stakeholder engagements.
- Implementation Support: Support pilot-testing of interventions, skill training, and other on-ground activities at the cluster and state level.
Requirements
- Postgraduate degree in environmental/climate science, economics, public policy, engineering, statistics, urban/environmental planning, or related subjects
- 0-1 years of work experience in research roles related to MSME, environmental issues, energy sector, climate policy, emissions inventory, or related topics
- Writing experience expressed through published reports or written documentation
- Awareness of environment and climate domain – main issues and trends
- Ability to work with and coordinate with multiple partners
- Fluency in English and Gujarati or Hindi is preferred
- Ability to engage constructively and collaboratively with the team and partners
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in planning, coordinating capacity building or skilling programs amongst communities, small businesses, women, entrepreneurs, or experienced/semi-experienced workers
