Kerala Youth Leadership Academy

Kerala Youth Leadership Academy (KYLA) is a pioneering institute of the Government of Kerala with a vision to shape civic-minded youth into ethical leaders of tomorrow. Chaired by the Chief Minister, KYLA offers programmes that blend practical governance exposure with world-class training. The Academy empowers young people to drive positive change, using technology and expert-led online learning to build skills, character, and leadership for a modern Kerala.

Role

The Young Kerala Fellowship Programme (YKFP) is a six-month (extendable to one year) opportunity for graduates aged 21-27 to work closely with district officials and immerse themselves in the public governance ecosystem of Kerala. Designed for energetic, socially conscious individuals, this fellowship offers both practical experience and academic learning in leadership and policy.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with district collectors, development commissioners, and sub-collectors on priority government projects.
  • Contribute to various development programmes at the district level, gaining firsthand insight into real-world administration.
  • Participate in a residential certificate course at IMG, Thiruvananthapuram, with modules on public policy, administration, governance, leadership, and management.
  • Support project planning, implementation, and review.
  • Attend meetings, prepare reports, and present findings alongside district mentors.
  • Engage actively in training, workshops, and state-wide knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a recognised university.
  • Age 21-27 years as of application date.
  • Strong interest in public service, leadership, and social impact.
  • Willingness to work from assigned district and participate in residential training.
  • No specific work experience required; previous volunteering or community engagement is an advantage.
