About

Kohmorehbee is an Indian advisory organisation that works with changemaking organisations and funders to move philanthropic resources where they are most needed. Its tagline is "Where hope meets resources." It starts from the view that philanthropic funding in India goes mostly to familiar problems and people. The organisation cites examples: education receives more than 60% of CSR funding, while the North East receives 5% of all philanthropic funding. Kohmorehbee describes its approach as data-backed research, capacity building through practice, and connections rooted in trust. It works on both sides of the funding relationship, with the organisations raising money and the funders giving it. 1773467079103.jpg

Major Areas of Work

  • Resource mobilisation: Helping nonprofits build fundraising teams, roadmaps and organisation-wide ownership of raising funds.

  • Narrative and communication: Reworking how organisations present their work so funders can clearly see its impact.

  • Philanthropy research and strategy: Research-based strategy for funders, grounded in local understanding of the Indian context.

  • Ecosystem connections: Linking funders with organisations doing strong work in overlooked causes and regions.

  • Systems for funders: Building the processes and systems funders need to back systemic solutions.

Major Initiatives and Programmes

  • Storytelling that transforms: Support for changemaking organisations to rewrite their narrative and collateral so funders understand their impact.

  • Capacity that lasts: Fundraising capacity building that spreads ownership of resource mobilisation across the whole organisation.

  • Navigating the landscape: Helping organisations identify funders and partners who share their vision.

  • Strategic clarity: Strategy development for funders, including domestic philanthropy strategy, grounded in local understanding.

  • Authentic connections and Processes and Systems: Funder-facing services to find organisations in overlooked spaces and set up systems to back systemic change with confidence.

Impact

Kohmorehbee states that Make A Difference (MAD), which it began working with in 2022, grew from annual expenditure of about INR 7 crore to income of about INR 14 crore by 2025, and now has a full fundraising team supporting its volunteer-led child care model. Its site also cites work with the vartaLeap Coalition and Rainmatter Foundation that led to a USD 1 million grant to embed climate action into youth organisations, noting that its founder worked on this in an independent capacity. It also cites supporting the Children's Investment Fund Foundation on its domestic philanthropy strategy, and has worked with The Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiatives on strengthening the fundraising of a nonprofit it supports.

Leadership

  • Rishabh Lalani, CEO and Founder

  • Vedika Thimmaiah, Design and Research

  • Yukti Jain, Accounts and Finance

Kohmorehbee is a small team working on the funding side of the social sector, where one engagement can change how much money an organisation raises for years. Staff see both nonprofit and funder perspectives, working on fundraising strategy, research, storytelling and grant-making systems. The work suits people interested in philanthropy, fundraising and development finance who want direct exposure to a wide range of organisations and funders, and who are comfortable with the broad responsibility that comes with a small, founder-led team.
