Headquarters: New Delhi Sectors: Journalism, Media, Accountability Reporting
What They Do The Reporters' Collective focuses on accountability journalism: reporting that examines how power is exercised, how government commitments are kept or broken, and how public resources are used or misused. The work sits at the intersection of governance, development, and political economy.
Investigations are produced collaboratively, often involving multiple reporters working together on a single project. The collective also partners with other news organisations in India and internationally, including collaborations with Forbidden Stories for cross-border investigations.
Recent and Ongoing Projects Stories and series have covered a wide range of issues including electoral bonds and political financing, environment and forest policy, the saffronisation of Sainik Schools, welfare delivery failures, police suicides, women's safety, illegal gold laundering, and government data on poverty and public health. The Assurance Project, one of their ongoing series, tracks promises made by the Union government in Parliament and examines whether they have been fulfilled.
Languages and Formats Stories are published in English and Hindi. The collective also produces video explainers and documentaries, and runs podcasts. Some investigations are republished by or co-produced with mainstream media outlets.
Fellowship The Reporters' Collective runs an Investigative Reporting Fellowship that provides grants of Rs. 1 lakh to journalists working on public interest investigations.
The Reporters' Collective is funded through reader donations and institutional grants. It is a good fit for journalists, researchers, and fact-checkers with an interest in accountability reporting, political economy, or public policy in India.
