World Vision

World Vision India is a Christian humanitarian organisation working to create lasting change in the lives of children, families, and communities living in poverty and injustice. It has been active in India since 1951 and was registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act in 1976, with its own Board of Directors. World Vision India serves all people regardless of religion, caste, race, ethnicity, or gender, and works across 200 districts in 24 states and 1 union territory, impacting around 26 lakh children and their families in over 6,200 communities.

Major Areas of Work

• Child Wellbeing and Sponsorship: Ensuring children have access to education, health, protection, and participation through long term child sponsorship programmes.
• Area Development Programmes (ADP): A geography focused, long term community development model, with each ADP covering a population of 20,000 to 1,00,000 people.
• Livelihoods and Economic Development: Providing Economic Development Assistance such as sewing machines and livestock, along with Self Help Group formation, to help families move out of poverty.
• Water, Sanitation and Health: Building household toilets, improving access to safe water, and running health and nutrition support for malnourished children.
• Child Protection: Setting up Child Protection Units and community vigilance systems, along with programmes to reduce child labour and child marriage.
• Disaster Response: Providing emergency relief during major disasters, including the 2004 tsunami, the Kashmir earthquake, and recurring floods and cyclones across Indian states.

Major Initiatives and Programs

• Meerut Child Labour Project, running Child Care Centres that identify out of school children, counsel them, and support their return to education
• COVID-19 emergency response, reaching nearly 5 million people with protective equipment, hygiene supplies, food packets, and educational materials
• Children's Clubs, formed to build child leadership and participation at the community level
• Anganwadi Centre support, delivering health services to children under 2 through trained health workers
• Partnerships with governments, civil society, corporations, academia, and faith based organisations to advance child wellbeing at scale

Impact World Vision India currently works across 200 districts in 24 states and 1 union territory, impacting around 26 lakh children and their families in over 6,200 communities. Its programmes have supported thousands of Self Help Groups, built household toilets and water access points for underserved families, and delivered emergency relief following major disasters over several decades. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisation reached nearly 5 million people with essential supplies and support.
