Implementing PESA in Jharkhand: From Perspectives to Action at Azim Premji University
About the Programme
Implementing PESA in Jharkhand: From Perspectives to Action is a 5-day course on Jharkhand's PESA rules, notified on 2 January 2026, which recognise the Gram Sabha as a self-governing institution. These rules let Gram Sabhas manage local resources like minor minerals, minor forest produce, and local markets, and let them act against unauthorised moneylending and liquor production, both linked to the exploitation of Adivasi communities. Around half of Jharkhand's Gram Panchayats, blocks, and districts fall under PESA areas, so this is a timely opportunity for civil society organisations already working there to understand the Act and rules well enough to support Gram Sabhas properly.
Eligibility
- Must represent a civil society organisation working in Jharkhand, with at least two participants sent per organisation.
- 5 to 6 years of grassroots development experience, in PESA-related work or themes like health, education, livelihoods, or welfare and entitlements.
- Comfortable speaking Hindi. Working knowledge of English is an advantage.
- Shortlisting is based on the application and a telephonic interview. The evaluation committee's decision is final.
