Foundation for Development Action (FDA) is a registered non-profit organization working across all 14 districts of Kerala. Established in 2008, FDA started its operations in Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Thiruvananthapuram, and has since grown into a statewide organization.
FDA is staffed by young professionals from fields such as Social Work, Health, Law, Counselling, and Environmental Science.
The organization started with institution-based capacity building training programmes for social work students and awareness generation events for youth. Partnership with other organizations started in 2014-15, wherein FDA joined hands with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) an Ahmedabad based development organization for conducting Entrepreneurial Development Programmes (EDP) for unemployed youths of Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram districts.
Association with Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) started in 2015-16 for implementing United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) funded Community Based Disaster Risk Management Programme (CBDRM) at Munroethuruthu and Peringara revenue villages. It was in the same year, Campus Disaster Management Programme was implemented at SOS Children’s Village Thrissur, Kerala. School Safety Programme was yet another milestone in the progressive development of the organisation.
FDA works in four main areas:
- Disaster Risk Reduction: Building community resilience and preparedness against natural disasters through community-based and school-based disaster management programs.
- Child Development: Protecting children's rights and ensuring every child has access to a safe and dignified childhood.
- Livelihoods: Creating employment opportunities and empowering communities through skills and enterprise support.
- Capacity Building: Training individuals and organizations to strengthen their capabilities and confidence.
FDA welcomes volunteers, interns, partners, and career professionals who share their commitment to community development.
