Role

The Academic Mentor works directly with government primary schools in Soreng district to strengthen everyday classroom practice. You will support teachers to use communicative English approaches, oral language development activities and foundational learning methods, through regular school visits, classroom observation, demonstration lessons and steady coaching. The work also involves collecting and recording data, documenting what is working, and staying in close touch with head teachers, school leaders and district education officials. It suits an education professional who believes teachers change classrooms and who enjoys sustained, respectful mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular mentoring visits to assigned government primary schools each month.
  • Observe classroom teaching using structured observation tools and give teachers clear, constructive feedback.
  • Support teachers to use communicative English and oral language development activities in their classrooms.
  • Conduct demonstration classes that model effective and child-centred teaching strategies.
  • Help teachers with lesson planning, classroom preparation and peer observation sessions.
  • Facilitate reflective discussions and teacher learning sessions, and help teachers solve classroom problems.
  • Support the delivery of teacher training programmes and workshops, and identify what further support teachers need.
  • Maintain records of every mentoring visit and classroom observation, and submit monthly progress reports.
  • Collect and analyse implementation data, and support baseline, midline and endline assessments.
  • Document good practices, case studies and classroom innovations from the field.
  • Support schools to organise parent engagement activities, learning showcases and reading events.
  • Coordinate with head teachers, district education officials, project team members and technical experts, and represent the project at district-level activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education, English, Child Development, Social Sciences or a related field, or a graduate degree with significant experience in teacher professional development and school mentoring.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in education programmes.
  • Experience working with government schools.
  • Experience in teacher training, mentoring or academic support.
  • Fluent in Nepali, and able to talk easily with children, teachers, parents and community members in the local setting.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Nepali.
  • Based in Soreng district, living nearby, or willing to relocate to Soreng.
  • Owns or has reliable access to a two-wheeler, and holds a valid driving licence.
  • Willing to travel widely within Soreng district and work in remote and outdoor settings.
  • Strong understanding of child-centred pedagogy, communicative language teaching and early language development.
  • Ability to run classroom observations and provide coaching support to teachers.
  • Strong facilitation, training, documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Basic digital skills in MS Office / Google Workspace / data collection tools.
  • B.Ed., D.El.Ed. or an equivalent professional qualification is preferred, as is extra training in foundational literacy and numeracy, language education or teacher development, and experience in multilingual contexts and in monitoring and documentation.
