Acumen (Acumen Academy)

Acumen is a global organisation working to solve poverty by investing in companies, leaders, and ideas, building a more just and inclusive world. Acumen Academy is its learning community for leaders grounded in moral imagination. Through the India Acumen Fellowship, Acumen supports leaders who are already driving change in their communities with practical tools, moral leadership training, and a long term, trusted community.

Role

This fellowship supports established social sector leaders to deepen their strategic thinking, leadership, and storytelling skills as they scale their organisation’s impact.

Responsibilities

• Take part in a one day virtual orientation to begin the fellowship
• Attend three in-person immersives of 5 to 6 days each, alongside a cohort of peer leaders
• Complete two virtual Learning Labs of 16 hours each, spread across two weeks
• Learn to balance competing demands while moving people toward a shared goal
• Explore ideas on what a just society requires, drawing on thinkers from Plato to Amartya Sen to Chimamanda Adichie
• Map stakeholder needs and learn to navigate uncertainty at each stage of organisational growth
• Build the skills to tell your organisation’s story clearly to investors, partners, and policymakers

Requirements

• Leading an organisation or system for at least 3 years, with clear evidence of your role, work, and impact
• Working as a Founder, CXO, or civil servant who can shape strategy, direction, and key decisions
• Your organisation is registered, functioning, and has a team of 4 or more people
• Working to improve people’s livelihoods, opportunities, access, agency, or quality of life, especially for underserved communities
• Able to clearly explain what you are changing, who benefits, and what evidence shows your work is making a difference
• Aged between 25 and 50 years
• Demonstrated financial traction: at least ₹30 lakh or more raised or generated annually for organisations working mainly in rural areas, or ₹50 lakh or more for organisations working mainly in urban areas (these are benchmarks, not strict cut offs)
