Sunbird Trust is a not-for-profit organisation working in remote and conflict-affected parts of Northeast India since 2014. Their mission Peace through Education drives everything from building schools and hostels to supporting children through sponsorships. They work alongside local communities on livelihoods and peacebuilding, helping connect people in the Northeast with the rest of India. The team includes graduates from Teach for India, Azim Premji University, and the Gandhi Fellowship. Sunbird Trust holds a Great Place to Work accreditation since 2023 and was recognised among the top ten NGO case studies at Azim Premji University's Stories of Change competition in 2023.
Role
Plan, coordinate, and deliver skill development programmes at the community level — connecting youth and women in villages with training providers, employers, and job opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Mobilise youth, women, and community members from villages and schools for skill development programmes
- Conduct awareness campaigns, orientation sessions, and community meetings to share available opportunities
- Identify and counsel candidates on career pathways, training options, and job placements
- Support candidates through enrolment, documentation, and onboarding
- Screen and onboard candidates for pre-departure courses; coordinate travel and logistics
- Co-facilitate sessions with partner coordinators and contribute to improving course content
- Coordinate with training partners to ensure smooth programme execution and candidate progress
- Build and maintain relationships with training institutions, employers, local leaders, schools, and NGOs
- Liaise with local government departments to strengthen outreach
- Track placements and provide post-placement support; maintain an alumni connect network
- Maintain records of candidates, training activities, and placements; prepare progress reports
- Document success stories, challenges, and learnings from the field
- Work closely with programme, operations, and location-based teams on all field activities
- Participate in organisation-level activities and support planning and budgeting as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Rural Development, Development Studies, Management, or a related field with at least one year of relevant experience; a Master's degree is preferred
- Prior experience in skill development, livelihood programmes, or community mobilisation is an advantage
- Candidates based in Northeast India are preferred
- Willingness to travel extensively and live in remote areas across Manipur, Assam, and Nagaland
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage with rural communities and diverse groups
- Good networking and relationship-building abilities
- Organisational, coordination, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to adapt to field environments and local cultures
- Computer skills MS Office, data entry, and reporting tools
- Commitment, integrity, and a proactive, team-first approach
