Bharat Digital is an organisation working to improve India’s public digital systems by training early career technologists, designers, and AI practitioners to work directly within government departments. It runs the Build for Bharat Fellowship, which places fellows inside government teams for six months to help build and improve public services used by millions of people.

Role

A six month, on-site fellowship placing early-career engineers, designers, and AI practitioners inside a government department to build and improve public services used by millions of Indians. On-site at a partner government department in India

Responsibilities

• Work directly within a government department’s team on a live public service project for six months
• Apply your engineering, design, or AI skills to improve systems used by citizens, such as official data platforms, citizen service portals, or frontline worker tools
• Take part in a pre fellowship orientation and regular check ins and reviews with mentors
• Visit the offices and communities affected by your work to understand it from the ground up
• Attend expert office hours and community events with other fellows
• Help ship real improvements to government systems, often within your first month

Requirements

• Indian citizen
• Graduating in 2027, or completed your most recent degree between 2024 and 2026
• Demonstrable skills in Engineering, Design (UI/UX, user research), or AI
• Willingness to relocate on-site to a government department assigned by Bharat Digital
• Comfortable working in a six month, fast paced, real world government environment
